VOLUNTEERING

In addition to the 5-person management team, the Ten Thousand Villages stores are staffed by numerous volunteers who provide customer service, unpack shipments and carry out other activities as needed. Volunteer openings are dependent on current needs and may not be available at both stores.

BUYING

As we are part of the Ten Thousand Villages Canada national origanization, all of our buying is done through our head office. We are not able to directly purchase products from other suppliers, though rare exceptions may be made for 100% fair traders who are members of the WFTO and/or selling Transfair-certified products. Inquiries about such products may be made to a store manager. Any other individuals, companies or organizations wishing to inquire about selling products should contact the Ten Thousand Villages Canada head office by email.

OTTAWA ALTERNATIVE TRADE CORPORATION

Ten Thousand Villages' Ottawa stores are owned and operated by Ottawa Alternative Trade Corporation (OATC), with the support of:

OATC is managed by a 7-member Board of Directors. It is a non-profit corporation composed of persons from the local community. Anyone interested in the mission and purpose of Ten Thousand Villages, willing to adhere to its guiding principles, and residing in the National Capital region can become a member of OATC. In this way, you can play a role in marketing the craft of international artisans in the Ottawa area. If you are interested in becoming a member of OATC, please contact one of the stores.
